....Some of you might have seen the above photo of my favorite bag(a.k.a my travelin' companion!) in one of my blog-posts... Well, I've never mentioned it before, but it's by Bottega Veneta (ehem-ehem* ~show off!) Anywayyy...
This brand is best known for its hand-woven leather goods... Founded in 1966, Bottega Veneta which literally means 'Venetian atelier' began life by taking on subcontracts, particularly for Armani, before coming out under its own in the 70s. Unlike other names in the luxury world, they 'gambled' on not having a showy logo. Its seal/label appears only very discreetly inside the bags. Its creed “When your initials are enough” took off in the world of the discreet jet setters. It was then that the brand lived its finest hour. That is, before slowly returning to oblivion...
In 1998, Bottega Veneta’s founders gave some young designers the task of restoring the fortunes of the brand, but the introduction of models flaunting ostentatious logos was a flop! It took the arrival of the designer Tomas Maier, formerly from Sonia Rykiel and Hermès, for Bottega Veneta to reconquer its former glory; a return back to “no logo”. Success was back in business! As early as 2002, three stores were opened, in Paris, London and Milan. In 2002 they launched the ready-to-wear fashion, followed by the opening of a flagship store in New York (& now more than 86 stores world wide!) and later in 2004 was the jewelry collection. The launch of the furniture-home collection was in 2006. Here are some of the designs ~Take a look darrrlingsss...
.
" Le sighhhhh...~Gorgeous!!! "
... Well-well-well...the last time I checked, a Bottega Veneta bench/trunk made with the signature woven leather was about USD$ 20 000 (~ouch!) Hmmm...how many bags can one buy with that? errr...& what recession?!!
~XOXO*

Thanks for the history and what gorge furniture. Yum.
ReplyDeleteI suspect I won't have any of those on my shopping list. Not that I don't like them, I love them.
ReplyDeleteI could rob a bank but then I'd be in jail and a lovely purse wouldn't be allowed.
I love the bag. I also love all those other items. Would love to have that in my home. So beautiful.

ReplyDeleteI had no idea they had a home collection. I really like it. Though the bench is sadly out of my price range!
Such understated luxury! Oh a dream of a place :)
ReplyDeleteAnd Santa baby just leave the bag under the tree...for me ;)

ReplyDeleteHad not the slightest idea of all the hurdles BV went through to be where they are today, nor did I know the history of it's stylish initials! I did all the mirrors in the furniture designs...

Soo classy - a bit like yourself really :)
ReplyDeleteThree of the only good things my ex-husband ever bought me...and this was before we were married...were two Bottega bags and a Leiber that isn't a typical blinged out clutch. It's been years and I still have them.
ReplyDeleteThat bench is swoon worthy!
Bottga Veneta is my fav brand...
ReplyDeleteI actally thought your bag was from BV....
and TMAier stuff is really cool too..
Supremely stylish! Just like you... and your bag xx
ReplyDeleteoh. my. god. the home collection is so gorgeous! when i have my own house i want it to look just like it ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's such a refined, elegant brand. Yet it doesn't seem pretentious.
ReplyDeleteMy mother, my sister, and I all bought BV in New York in the early 80's and wore them until they frayed and died. The no logo thing REALLY works in the High WASP world.
ReplyDeleteThat bag!! A real beauty to be sure! You'll have it forever and ever because it's so wonderful and wonderfully made = timeless! That interior - gosh!
ReplyDeleteClassic and elegant. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI think if I lived there I'd just hang out at home all day and order in chinese food. And drool over my own house.
ReplyDeleteCute bag. I am drooling about the cabat but just can't drop $5000+ for one yet..... : ) maybe you can tell santa for me.
ReplyDeleteWow.. Bottega Veneta is really expensive, but it's hand woven. :P
ReplyDeleteBetter buy a BV bag than any cheap thing that was produced by children -.- !!
Okay, I really don't need much convincing here - I'm sold. Want it all. Plus bag(s)! (Now I also understand where the idea of a wood-panelled walk-in closet comes from. May I call you Lady of Luxury from now on?) xox
