...The largest fortified church in Southeastern Europe, was built by Teutonic knights in the year 1212-1213. The powerful surrounding walls are 10-15 feet thick. Historical records attest that in its 500 years of existence, the fortress was besieged 50 times. However, it was only captured once, in 1611 by Gabriel Báthori, Prince of Transylvania. Each village family had a designated room for shelter in case of attack! The red-roofed wall accommodated 272 rooms, stacked over four stories. How amazzzing is that! Well...today I'd say~ " Let's start building bridges instead of wallsss..." Peace & Love Darlingsss... ~XOXO*

They must have had good reason to build a fortress like that. Who wouldn't rather sit back and relax?
Yes, bridges instead of walls. That's incredible - I can't imagine the amount of back-breaking work this would be.
Clear sign of the times back then. The Church was the sanctuary to keep evil out.
We've come a long way in our teachings and thinking. Hope you're having a lovely weekend too!
That's incredible! Can you imagine playing hide and seek in that?
this church looks spectacular!
Love these shots. This is kind of marginally related-- but remember that crazy scene at the end of that movie with Will Smith about the zombies where the lady at the end escapes and finds herself in the promised non-zombie world, and all they have to protect themselves is a wall and gate? Yeah right-- like a wall that tall would keep those zombies out! :)
Happy Sunday, darling.
