And today is my birthday...
turning sweet-sixteen!!!

this fashion photography
reminded me of the classic
painting by Caravaggio...
.
.
Bacchus by Caravaggio ~circa 1595
.
"...told ya! "
.
.
.
...Caravaggio [1571 – 1610] was notorious for his reckless private life and his provocative nature as a painter. His paintings today are still alive with the high drama of his days and the stories he portrayed. Once the Church asked Caravaggio to paint a Madonna(...NOT ex Mrs Guy Ritchie! but the Jesus' mommy dearest!). When he finished the painting the Church would not accept it. They said the Madonna has no decorum as she is not wearing any sandals and besides he used prostitutes for his models... But Caravaggio was not perturbed he said 'It does not matter if the Church does not want my painting. I shall put it on the streets and let the people decide for themselves'. The people just went wild about his paintings. What continues to hold our attention is the work itself which in its time represented the culmination of technical innovations begun 200 years earlier in the Renaissance. The art of representation has never surpassed the best of Caravaggio's work and it towered over the work of his contemporaries in a way that sent shock waves throughout Europe waves that are felt to this day...

WOO HOO! Welcome back, darling L! How we have missed you and your tutelage, your fine photos and sense of humor!

Love the flower pics and the art history inspiration. Caravaggio is one of my fave all time painters! You can almost smell the flowers and taste the berries in his paintings!

What a great post! Thank you for commenting on my blog. That's how I "found" you! Have you watched Simon Scama's Power of art segment on Caravaggio? It's a great story. I love pugs too. Have 2 pug/boston mixes bugging me all day:)

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! (you're soooo young) =D Gosh these photos are incredible. They really do look like the Caravaggio painting am gld you pointed that out and gave the background of the artist. Haha very interesting. I like that he left it up to the public to decide whether his art was good or not.
