~This hand-painted piece designed by Akira Isogawa
reminded me of a painting by the great Mark Rothko...
.
I was fortunate enough to view Rothko Exhibition at Tate Modern
when I was in London last November...'powerful moments!'
~Those colorsss...as if they were on some kind of steroids!!!
.
~From Akira Printemps Été 2009 Collection-
Hand Painted! Aren't they beautiful? ...love the color combinations...Gorgeousss!
.
~always attracted by Rothko's UNIQUE color combination too!
That's why I was quite surprised to learn & find out
from one of his quotes recently...
.
"I am not an abstract painter...
I am not interested in the relationship between form and color. The only thing I care about is the expression of man's basic emotions: tragedy, ecstasy, destiny." ~Mark Rothko
.
"A garment can transcend,
giving it a soul..." ~Akira Isogawa
.
Mark Rothko 1950-
"White Center (Yellow, Pink and Lavender on Rose)"
. .
....This Rothko painting broke the record for postwar art at Sotheby’s Auction in New York recently. The painting sold for US$72.8 million dollars ONLY!!! (presale estimates had put it around $40 million ONLY!), this over-the-top boost can most likely be attributed to the big name of owner and seller David Rockefeller Sr. ~who said he plans to donate the proceeds of the sale to charity (the charity went unnamed and how much of the proceeds are also unknown...buyer also anonymous!)~Wow-Wee!!!...sure is a 'crazzzy-wonderful-fascinating' world* we live in...

That is some haul for a painting. I love it though and the dresses.
I do love BOLD colors, and these are certainly BOLD! I was not aware of this artist, Rothko, of which you speak (or type). Color me intrigued!
I'm not very into fashion, but I do like the Isogawar dresses. The colors ARE reminiscent of Rothko, and they're very flow-y (Sorry, don't know the proper fashion speak) which always seems flattering to most women.
Wow! I love those dresses, wish I had one. I want one of those paintings hanging on my wall.:) How much money did I just spend? The colors are bold, but soft. Nice post!!
Lenore, Like the way your mind works. Nice post.
I’m a big Rothko fan, too. My favorite spot in the Modern Art gallery at the Met is in front of a Rothko painting. Interesting quote you mentioned. I’ve read a bit about him, but never heard that. However, reflecting on how I feel when I view his work, I now understand that his mission was to pull those emotions up to the surface. His work does that in spades. Also felt a tinge of that looking at those Isogawa textiles.
love the similarities. the model is beautiful too. and her shoes. holy cow. would love a large painting like that on our living room wall.
I forgot to mention that I LOVE your banner! :)
those do look like Rathko walking. beautiful finds
I love Rothko. We have a huge Rothko print - very high quality, very well framed by my fiance's brother-in-law. Although I'm kind of an original art snob (and by original I don't mean expensive, I just like one-of-a-kind stuff), but the Rothko is one of my favorite pieces in the house.
And those dresses, oh my! How badly do I want one of those dresses?
Now this post is right up my alley!! Love Rothko ~~ talk about COLOR...
I love the colors of the painting and how they carried over to the dresses.
PS I was just thinking of you and was headed over here to visit when I say your comment on mine. LOL...
Sweet dreams! xoxo
my fave is the dress in the brown and tealish combo. superb! love this post, very fresh and inspiring.
These blocks of cheery color scream summer - love it!
those dresses are sublime, so bold and graphic, as are the paintings

Have always loved his work and those dresses are so cool. Love how they flow.
great pairings with the art and fashion. I love Mark Rothko painting, the emotion is always so raw for me. I discovered his work while in art school and it was an emotional time for me, which made him a favorite!
Def fashion inspired in art.
Love this post with those bold colours!!!
Thanks for sharing all this, darling.
Blessings.

I adore this cross-pollination in the arts! Rothko is one of my favorite modern artsits, and these art-inspired dresses are lovely! If we can't afford a rothko, at least we can buy one of these amazing dresses! Fabulous post, darling L!

Woah, so amazing.
Love, love Rothko! How cool the connection between his color palettes and fashion. Also, thank you for sharing the quote. I hadn't understood this part of his intention and his paintings have opened up for me.
Wow, this post is absolutely amazing!

You are so right! The Rothko is exactly like the Isogawa dresses (aren't they gorgeous!?) I love the one with the aqua and orange.
Excellent post!

love the color combos. kept getting better the further down i would scroll.
drooling on my key board now.
I'm a huge Rothko fan. I love the paintings. The dresses are beautiful as well and the silhouette will flatter most figures as well as the color combo will compliment most complexions. Great post Leonore, I love it all!
here is the deal. you get all the dresses, and i get all of the paintings. i love his paintings. i used to work at a museum that had some, and i could have stared at them all day long. LOVE THEM.
foundimental mistake!
"I've known anything about Rothko."
How could I know him! I was going to write "I don't know anything about Rothko." Sorry. I made a mess.
i love mark rothko and omg these dresses are amazing--- i love this post, best one ive seen in a while!!! thanks for posting!
AWESOME post, melding 2 of my passions! I love the Rothkos and I had never seen those fashions before...beautiful! Thank you...
Great dresses and fun paintings... good match.
Rothko painted in the spirit of another Russian painter, Malevitch (he painted all black paintings, which he believed fostered a kind of religious experience due to their lack of content). The emphasis was always about the emotional experience of the viewer rather than the physical make-up of the painting.
That being said...I love love love Rothko's color combos and the way they fade into each other...the way that is worked into those dresses is fantastic!
amazing. I love these dresses...they seem so constructed but also organic. love.
love rothko...amazing post:)
gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous dresses.
wearable art is definitely my art of choice!
