NEW COLOR

... What's your favorite colorssss... and why? ...Heehee! No...This is not another 'contest' from LENORENEVERMORE... Anyhow, It is quite clear that colors seem to mean different things to each one of us(unless one is color-blind...). Color acts as more than a symbol... may even affect some one's mood and behavior... we've been conditioned blue=boy! and pink=girl! But color psychology(yes, there is such a thing!) is the study of the effect of color on human behavior and feeling. Some psychologists even see this field as a type of "alternative medicine", as there isn't very much scientific evidence supporting their beliefs... Those who believe strongly in color psychology, known as color consultants, believe that most people seem to have the same emotional reactions to the same colors; despite their symbolic meaning. They claim that red colors are viewed more as "warm", while blue and green are often viewed as "cool"...hmmm... "warm" hues are viewed as active and exciting...yayyy! And have been shown to increase body tensions, while "cooler" hues are known to be soothing and passive, supposedly releasing tension...ahhh...

Color consultants are also known for their experiments with rooms painted different colors and the responses they receive. In some studies, shown that weight lifters performed better in blue rooms, babies cry more in yellow rooms, and pink rooms have helped to calm down prisoners(pink jails? how Barbie!). Likewise, red has been shown to increase appetite and motivate action(no wonder love tomato sauce, strawberry, ketchup with fries! but again I love white vanilla & green tea ice cream...all rainbow food! I don't discriminate, yay!), green creates a cozy and fresh feeling (love green grass, jut not mowing lawns!), and blue calms and relaxes(love my blue jeans!). While questions have been raised about the accuracy of these "new" ideals, they are not so new. Ancient civilizations also believed that color influenced behavior, and the ancient Chinese, Egyptians believed in Chromotherapy, or (color in healing...)
However, while these studies may seem accurate, results of a color having a universal effect on a group of people have been inconclusive.
Important to know that the effect of color is more culturally symbolic than it is psychological. People feel and react to color based on how their culture has taught them to react, thus debunking the experiments. One thing is for sure... there is much more to color than meets the eye look at these pictures above! Color is something that is all around us, yet most of us never think twice about the direct/indirect effect it has on how we perceive things. Once you really start to pay attention... it is clear that certain colors mean different things depending on your location and cultures... So what color turns you on & off ???... LENORENEVERMORE is curious as usual.... hee! I'm no expert... all I know is, " color glorious colorsss, here we come..." Let us explore glorious color this week! shall we...

Green!
I used to love Blue, but started to feel that it was overdone. Besides, I love the fresh outdoorsy feeling of green. Fresh, calm, serene, natural. Beautiful! I want to paint a picture with only shades of green.
But, I think I look sickly when I wear some shades of green, so I have to be careful.

Colours are wonderific things. They do seem to have an effect on our psychology. The pink prisons idea would be an interesting experiment to carry out. I would like to see if the prisoners start knitting groups and reading clubs while discussing gardening.

I like the colour theory which artists like Wassilly Kandinsky and Franz Marc applied in their works.
Blue for spirituality
Red for the flesh (sins and such)
There are more in the theories of Dar Blau Rieter art movement, but I just wanted to give the red example because RED IS THE BEST COLOUR TO EVER BE MADE.

Its the colour of blood, which is awesomeness.
Its the colour of danger.
Easily the most symbolic colour of passion.
And it is also the tastiest colour of MnMs (I still maintain that each colour of MnM has a different taste).

(YES FIRST COMMENT, AGAIN!!! I love winning this game)

Oh excellent topic, and such an interesting post! :) I'm crazy about colors, and I've been dying to take a color theory class for a while now... Anyway, well, I've got tell you, "What's your favorite color?" has always been such a tough question for me! I'm very fond of colors, and also very open to mixing colors and don't really keep with the whole, "Oh those two colors clash" thing... I like to decide for myself whether I like two colors together, whether or not other people always say they clash or not. :D

I had to pick a colour and write a report on all of the most interesting facts I could find about it. I picked blue and I found a book that contained three essays on the three primary colours. A whole book! That's how much you can write on each colour (and then some).

No favorite, all rainbow colors are beautiful! I agree it's all in the cultures... white is either death or purityin different cultures, facinating! MJ

I'd have to say my favourite colours are yellow and blue, especially together! Colours are just really great things! Could you imagine if the world had no colour? Fashion would be so boring! Life would pretty much suck. This is a sweet topic :)

I have to friends that have Synesthesia so they're always talking about how T is blue, and A is a red-orange. It's interesting to think that it really is a science type thing. And those pictures are mind-boggling by the way :]

Woah seeing all those covers made me feel dizzy lol. They;re not REALLY covers are they!? :O Because they totally rock!!! haha

And lool yes it seems you made it into the number 2 slot. Lucky you! :P hehe

We've been studying 'colour therapy' in marketing. I believe its just the connotations and generalisations people have made through the ages that instill certain attributes with specific colours. As you were saying blue = boy and pink = girl. Its an interesting topic but sadly something my poor headachey head can deal with right now :(

I do agree, colour plays a major role in what I wear and buy.
For instance I would be much more inclined to buy, say a top that was in a dusky blue or green or perhaps pink rather than one the exact same that in a hideous pale yellow.
I think I'm inspired by photos I see, Flowers and book covers, colour colour colour!
Fantastic post, it has really got me thinking!
Thank you too for your lovely comment...

I remember researching colour for an art project, looking at the research behind it was fascinating. I think that people often overlook that different shades of the same colour can be drastically different in the ambience and feeling they create. I don't really have a favourite colour, it depends what the colour is for!!

Red. I love red's self-confidence. I love it's boldness. I love how it makes no apologies for who it is.

Love the layers and diffuseness of your images.

brown and green, colours of trees.

I tend to like colours from nature. It's easy to dress that way as well as it's natural and works naturally. :)

Awesome post! You always keep me so interested! If I had to pick any other colors that rock my world besides gray and black...they would have to be purple and blue! Green I only like in a deep, forest-y shade.

Thanks for always visiting! You are soo sweet!

Hi dear, how are things, I hope much better :)

WOW COLOUR.... I'm all for colour!
Well I have those times when I think that black or white are my colours mood, or maybe in a classic and stylish situation I think black is always "it".
(And I also had my goth period lol)

But I love colour, because our world isn't black and white, so there's so much inspirations in nature.

Favorites.... very difficult, but red, yellow, purple, blue, maybe are on top.

Thank you for all dear, keep smilling :)
